Dear Athina,

please find my comments attached.
I will be happy to review the second version of LandInfra standard if needed.
Please let me know when you release the final version.

Shall we have a Skype call on 7th March at 9:00 or day after at 14:00?

Have a great day,
Josef

Dear Athina,

thank you for your call, was great to talk with you.

As the deadline for submitting comments is very short I will first read the OCG Land and Infrastructure CM Standard and write down my suggestions and comments.
I would not have more than couple of hours during the weekend thus, please, do not expect detailed "peer review". I will write down few thoughts, for sure.

Will be great to discuss our future prospects either on the Phone or Skype.
Just to give you short review what is of our interest.:
We have two large infrastructure projects in the Czech Rep. in which we decided to utilize some of the BIM deliverables. (We can talk about them during the Skype meeting)
There is a lot that needs to be done to achieve these goals. Correct setting of processes and use of best possible data formats and specification is of our key interest.

We are working on our own specifications and details of terms and conditions to set the cooperation with our subcontractors and design companies. This is an ongoing process .... We write these based on our own experience and resources we gathered from "around" (UK, Norway, Netherlands, ... every source is helpful... ).

I believe that it might be beneficial for both of us when we will become the OCG member. In the sense that we can possibly adopt some of OGC standards and methodologies into our work and you can benefit from our experiences and the feedback we can provide.

What about to have a Skype on 7th March at 9:00 am? The other possibility will be the day after (8th March) at 2:00 pm?

Best regards,
Josef

Deara Josef,

as just briefly discussed on the phone, here some first feedback and my contact details below.

First of all, thanks for your interest to comment on the OGC Land and Infrastructure Conceptual Model Standard. Feedback from you (and Skanska) is more than welcome. As said, seeing your competences, we really want to encourage you to provide feedback and comments. Just follow the guidance in the announcement (links in your email).

For these comments, you don't have to be a member of the OGC.
It might be interesting for Skanska though to get engaged as a member in the OGC and participate in some of our Domain<http://www.opengeospatial.org/projects/groups/wg> (3D Information Management, Urban Planning etc.) and Standards working groups<http://www.opengeospatial.org/projects/groups/swg> (Land and Infrastructure, CityGML, IndoorGML etc.). I would imagine, that you can help in defining and developing the standards in your domain of expertise and benefit from that for your projects and developments.

I have copied my colleague Bart de Lathouwer, Director of OGC's Interoperability Program. He worked in the past with Autodesk and is the right person to explain the current state of work and future developments in the LandInfra domain within the OGC.

As said, maybe we can set up a phone / Skype call within the next couple of days and we can guide you through the current work and additionally answer your questions regarding an OGC membership.

Below please find my contact details.

Bye and I look forward to hearing back from you!

Dear Rupert,

first let me introduce myself:

I deal with programs meant to support the infrastructure design since 2010.
I worked as AEC software consultant for one of the Autodesk resellers and software developer (Graitec). Now I'm responsible for the BIM implementation in infrastructure projects in Skanska CZ and SK. Apart from that I lecture two BIM classes at the Czech Technical University in Prague.

I will be happy to comment the OGC Land and Infrastructure Conceptual Model Standard (LandInfra).

If not mistaken, what you need is a feedback on the LandInfra 1.0 (dowloadable at www.opengeospatial.org/standards/requests/148<http://mail.opengeospatial.org/lists/lt.php?id=fR4BA1UeAldeHwhTCwA>) by 2nd March.

Shall I become the OGC member before?

Hi!
I received this invitation to comment on a new open standard for infrastructure data through buildingSMART. The Open Geospatial Consortium is working on a new data model for exchange of terrain and infrastructure data and geometry. This is mainly of interest for Civils. Please let me know if you see this as valuable for your BU and that you want comment to form this fututre standard. If several units are interested, we can send a Skanska response.

Kind regards,
Rupert

OGC seeks public comment on candidate OGC® Land and Infrastructure Conceptual Model Standard (LandInfra)

Contact: info at opengeospatial.org<mailto:info at opengeospatial.org>

01 February 2016 - The membership of the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC®) seeks public comment on the candidate OGC® Land and Infrastructure Conceptual Model Standard (LandInfra).

LandInfra defines concepts for land and civil engineering infrastructure facilities. This conceptual standard will provide a basis for one or more implementation standards for encoding infrastructure data. Developers will use the encoding standard to implement software and services that enable users of diverse technologies and vendor platforms to efficiently exchange information about land and civil engineering infrastructure facilities.

The extended stakeholder community for this standard spans civil engineering (e.g., road and rail) and surveying; land parcel; facility and asset management; and government information communities. It is applicable throughout the entire facility lifecycle, including planning, design, construction, operations, maintenance, and removal. It represents a seminal venture into GIS<http://mail.opengeospatial.org/lists/lt.php?id=fR4BAlceAldeHwhTCwA>-CAD<http://mail.opengeospatial.org/lists/lt.php?id=fR4BAlYeAldeHwhTCwA>-BIM<http://mail.opengeospatial.org/lists/lt.php?id=fR4BAlEeAldeHwhTCwA> integration.

After evaluating the LandXML 1.2 schema<http://mail.opengeospatial.org/lists/lt.php?id=fR4BAlAeAldeHwhTCwA>, the OGC Land and Infrastructure Domain Working Group (LandInfraDWG)<http://mail.opengeospatial.org/lists/lt.php?id=fR4BAlMeAldeHwhTCwA> recommended the development of an alternative standard to be part of the OGC standards baseline. With shared interest by the buildingSMART International Infrastructure Room<http://mail.opengeospatial.org/lists/lt.php?id=fR4BAlIeAldeHwhTCwA>, it was agreed that this would be a concepts-only document – encodings such as GML<http://mail.opengeospatial.org/lists/lt.php?id=fR4BB1EeAldeHwhTCwA>, IFC<http://mail.opengeospatial.org/lists/lt.php?id=fR4BAl0eAldeHwhTCwA>, and possibly others would follow as separate implementation standardization efforts. An anticipated GML encoding will be compatible with other GML standards such as CityGML<http://mail.opengeospatial.org/lists/lt.php?id=fR4BAlweAldeHwhTCwA>. Having a common underlying Conceptual Model across all LandInfra encodings will help ensure compatibility across multiple encoding standards.

The Candidate OGC Land and Infrastructure Conceptual Model Standard is available for review and comment at www.opengeospatial.org/standards/requests/148<http://mail.opengeospatial.org/lists/lt.php?id=fR4BA1UeAldeHwhTCwA>. Comments are due by 02 March, 2016.

The OGC is an international consortium of more than 515 companies, government agencies, research organizations, and universities participating in a consensus process to develop publicly available geospatial standards. OGC Standards support interoperable solutions that "geo-enable" the Web, wireless and location-based services, and mainstream IT. OGC Standards empower technology developers to make geospatial information and services accessible and useful with any application that needs to be geospatially enabled.
